Thousands of children from all over Greece sent letters to their favorite saint, Santa Claus. Most of the children threw their letters in special red boxes of the Greek postal service, which were set up before the holidays in order to transfer the children’s wishes.
Children in Greece mainly asked for games. They also wanted to know about life in the North Pole and if the elves helped Santa Claus.
The childrens’ letters are often very touching, as they ask Santa Claus to help their parents and give them a job.
“Dear Santa Claus, my parents are unemployed and I can’t ask for a present because I understand the difficult situation in our house. Deep inside me, I believe in your existence. I want this Christmas to be memorable. I would like a nice new dress, but since I know it is a difficult gift, I will accept anything you send me with joy and gratitude,” said 10-year-old Angela.
The little friends of Santa Claus say that they have been “nice” and they hope that he will satisfy their desires. Their letters are full of colorful paintings and stickers.
Every year, 80,000 to 100,000 letters arrive at the post offices in Greece. Most of them are mailed between Christmas and New Year’s Day when schools are closed. In response to the childrens’ letters, the Greek postal service sends back a beautiful card with a message and a stamp.
