Winter Sales Turnover Expected Down by 10%

sales1Winter sales in Greece, which begin on Monday and will last until February 28, are expected to give a boost to the hard pressed retail sector.
TheĀ National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce (ESEE), estimates that turnover during this period will be aroundĀ 5 billion euros, down from 5.5 billion during 2013, a decline of just under 10%.
Last year’s decline was 14%, while in 2012 it was 14.9%. This year in an effort to boost retail sales, the government has allowed shops toĀ open on the first Sunday of the sales period, which will be January 19.
Commercial enterprises should pay particular attention to the following. Both the old and the new prices of all items on sale must be clearly visible to customers. An indication of the amount of discount on items is allowed, but is not mandatory.
As far as consumers are concerned, the Athens Trade Association’s advice, is to compared products on the basis of quality and final discount price before purchasing.
