Greek Doctors Extend Strike

strikes-doctors-Doctors who are members of the National Organization for Healthcare Provision in Greece (EOPYY), have decided to extend their strike to January 24, due to critical negotiations concerning their profession. Polyclinics are also operating with security medical staff. During the negotiations and until bill deposition, EOPYY doctors continue their meetings with Greek parties in an effort to negotiate and modify the bill.
Dismissals and removals in the Greek healthcare sector cannot be prevented, despite the fact that Mr. Georgiadis is now more willing to negotiate. He is taking into consideration the propositions made by the parties, especially by PASOK, and he will include some of them in the bill, but this development won’t solve the dismissal issue and the polyclinic definitive closure.
The Minister of Health has included a special article in the bill, according to which during the period of the availability measures, polyclinics will remain closed. All citizens insured EOPYY will be served by private physicians affiliated with EOPYY, health centers and outpatient clinics.
The availability measure period is expected to last one month at most, but EOPYY employees estimate that it will last much longer.
