The Greek Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis announced on Tuesday that he will pay a surprise visit to at least one state hospital in Athens, Greece, per week, despite the protests of the employees during his inspection at Aghia Olga hospital.
Commenting on the protests, Georgiadis claimed that it was an incident of minor importance caused by a minority that doesn’t represent Greeks. “When I go somewhere unannounced so that those on the far left are not able to gather, I have no problems. When others find out I am going, they want to make a show of it.”
According to Georgiadis, he wants to continue visiting hospitals in Athens in order to discuss with patients the problems they are facing.
The popularity of the Health Minister has plunged dramatically as a result of changes he is implementing in the Ministry of Health. Employees of the Aghia Olga hospital “welcomed” the Minister with placards and banners that read, “Adonis you are a fascist,” and “Hands off of health and hospitals.”
