A rescue operation is underway by the Greek Coast guard, after a fishing vessel containing illegal immigrants capsized, 1.5 nautical miles from the island of Farmakonisi, Greece, in the Eastern Aegean.The Coast Guard ship had detected the drifting vessel last night, packed with twenty-eight persons on board. As the Coast Guard was towing the vessel to safety, two people dived into the sea. The vessel was capsized in the confusion that followed.
Sixteen people have been rescued so far, while hopes are fading for the missing twelve. A Coast Guard rescue ship, a Navy vessel and a Super Puma helicopter have been searching for survivors since dawn.
