Murder in Malia Widely Covered by UK Media

Malia murderThe mother of 19-year-old Tyrell Matthews-Burton, who was fatally stabbed during a confrontation last year between 30 British tourists in Malia on Crete,  is urging the Greek authorities to identify and bring to trial those responsible for his murder.
Mrs. Matthews-Burton was present in court in Heraklion, Greece, this Tuesday, January 29, to provide an initial statement to the investigating judge. This is the second time she has traveled to Crete in the last six months, the first during the summer when she received the body of her son.
The 19 year-old died from stab wounds on the day of his birthday during a vacation in Malia, a summer resort that attracts thousands of young British tourists each year.
His mother could not hide he bitterness towards certain articles that have presented her son as a gang member. “My son was a very good kid; he never had anything to do with gangs. He loved his family and his friends,” she stated.
A 19-year-old British citizen was arrested in relation to the case which has received much publicity in the UK. It has even reached the Houses of Parliament where the victim’s mother met with British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in an attempt to persuade British authorities to investigate her son’s murder.
