Greece and Creditors Largely Resolve Issue of 2014 Fiscal Gap

troikaThe Greek government and its foreign lenders have for the most part reached an agreement over a potential fiscal gap for 2014, which is one of the main issues that was holding up negotiations with the troika.
However, troika officials estimate that the issue hasn’t been fully resolved yet. The two sides still need to agree on the terms of bank stress tests and structural reforms  before 4.9 billion euros in rescue loans are released. Greek officials are hoping that a deal with the  foreign creditors will be settled by the end of February.
The troika is also pressing Greece to adopt more than 300 reforms suggested by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in order to make the Greek economy more competitive.
According to the German newspaper, Der Spiegel, Greece is likely to receive a new aid package of 10-20 billion euros, before the European Elections in May. However, Troika and the German Finance Ministry deny these allegations saying that a new package will be officially discussed only after European Elections.
As far as a further debt haircut is concerned, troika officials reported that it is out of question.
