Arrest Warrant for Christoforakos And Karavelas

siemens

The investigators of the Greek Siemens case issued arrest warrants against the former company executive members Michael Christoforakos and Christos Karavelas, who appear to be the key players in this case.
According to the Court of Appeal, the two arrest warrants were issued in anticipation of the completion of part of the investigation concerning the 8002 contract, signed in 1997 between the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) and the German company for the digitization of OTE’s centers.
Special investigators handling the case of “useful payments,” which the German company imposed on government officials, have traced down transfers associated with the OTE contract in question. Thus, before closing this part of the case, investigators had to call Christophorakos and Karavelas for a defense statement and then issue arrest warrants in order to end the investigation.
It is worth mentioning that in 2009, Christos Karavelas had left abroad immediately after he was called for a defense statement. It appears that he is in Uruguay.
As for Christoforakos, who holds German and Greek citizenship, his extradition in Greece is impossible as the Supreme Court of Germany decided that the offenses for which the Greek state requested his extradition with three European arrest warrants, have already lapsed based on the German law.
