Greek PM Proposes Law to Facilitate New Businesses

Set Up Greek Firms FasterThe Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras mentioned during a press conference, that licenses for new firms will be granted electronically and in one day thanks to a bill that will be proposed to Parliament. He also mentioned he believes the new law simplifying the procedures will be voted in early April 2014.
“Through our actions we are trying to develop our country’s system so that it is business friendly” noted the Prime Minister, adding that the government is trying to complete this bill in the next few months, and the ministries are all working to prepare this secondary regulatory bill. “We cannot wish for unemployment numbers to reduce. We need to support new businesses. That is the key to increasing employment numbers.”
The new bill will cover every type of license such as: installment, function, establishment of businesses, environmental permits, also covering a wide range of businesses (industrial, mining, aquaculture, port infrastructure, tourist facilities, etc.).
A new innovative system was introduced for businesses to submit their “Declaration of Conformity,” which will automatically presume the firm’s compliance to the general requirements set by Greek law.
The entrepreneur will have to submit a solemn declaration for the legitimacy and accountability of the process. There won’t be any checks concerning the licensing process but public and private sector bodies will check the firm’s operations in order to authorize the licensing procedure.
Licenses will be handled electronically and issued on the same day said the Greece Prime Minister, adding that they are planning to decriminalize entrepreneurship and reduce the costs of establishing businesses.
