Greek Investigating Judges Question Golden Dawn's Legitimacy

xa2Radical developments concerning the Greek neo-Nazi political party Golden Dawn are taking place in the Greek political scene as the two investigating judges forwarded their verdict over Golden Dawn to the Greek Parliament. After this new development a new question is raised over the party’s legitimacy.
The two investigating judges underline in their verdict of 190 pages, that in order for a political party to be legal it must foremost serve the purposes of the Democratic regime.
In addition, the two investigating judges pinpoint what Greece’s constitution dictates in two of its articles. The Greek constitution indicates that if a political party under a democratic cloak wants to abolish the democratic regime and unleashes threats against human lives, it must be outlawed.
The verdict that was brought to the Greek Parliament putting all the Golden Dawn MPs in an undoubtedly difficult position includes a bulk of evidence from testimonies, documents, videos, transcripts of phone conversations and many messages that the Golden Dawn MPs and members exchanged via their mobiles. In the verdict, the Golden Dawn MPs are characterized as members of a criminal organization with strict structure and clear hierarchy. The purpose of the criminal organization is to cause social and political turbulence on a local and national level.
The fact that the two investigating judges consider Golden Dawn’s function as illegal a few months before the local and EU election. is likely to cause strong reactions from the Greek neo-Nazi party’s supporters. Of course if the party is banned or its MPs are jailed, many changes would occur in the political scene that will affect the outcome of the elections.
