7,500 Worldwide Greek Spots on 1 Website

PointgreekIn Estonia, tourists can enjoy Greek cuisine in several restaurants in Tallinn and Tartu. In Ecuador, the “Samos” restaurant offers take-away shrimp and spinach pilaf and tzatziki. In Venezuela and Uruguay, there are Greek dancing classes and in London there are three Greek bookstores. There are a plethora of Greek businesses spread around the world and the Greek website pointgreek.com has gathered about 7,500 spots of Greek interest in Europe, Canada and South America.
The user of the website can search for Greek communities, schools, restaurants, cafeterias, media and businesses along with Greek embassies and consulates in a specific country or city.
Behind this initiative is the IT company Western Computer Services, based in Agrinio, Greece. Two of the three partners, Ioannis Kotrotsos and Zois Koukopoulos, revealed that the company is planning to expand to the U.S. and Australia, where there are more than 10,000 spots of Greek interest. In addition, one of their primary goals is to discover every Greek spot worldwide.
The idea was born when their friends — who migrated because of the financial crisis — sought ways to remain connected with their homeland. “Our friends migrated abroad because of the crisis. They were looking to buy Greek products or to meet other Greeks. So we thought it would be a great idea to find, classify and present in a complete and functional way, all the Greek spots by city or by country,” stated Mr. Koukopoulos.
The website is a useful tool for Greeks visiting a foreign country or living there permanently and for those who love Greece and Greek lifestyle. It is also renewed and optimized everyday and visitors are urged to comment on the website content, add new spots and correct any possible mistake.
According to Mr. Kotrotsios, the next step of the company is to fix some technical problems of the site and to launch the mobile application and the mobile version of the website.
