Greek Unemployment at 27.5% in December

unemployment_GreeceAccording to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), unemployment in Greece rose to 27.5% in December 2013, compared to 27.6% in November 2013 and to 26.3% in December 2012. Greeceā€™s annual unemployment rate for 2013 was 27.3%.
More specifically, in December 2013, 3,555,034 Greek people were employed, 1,349,495 were unemployed and 3,388,927 were economically inactive.
According to the figures, employed people fell by 2.7% in comparison with December 2012 and by 0.2% compared to November 2013. The unemployed have increased by 48,551 (3.7%) since December 2012, but decreased by 10,864 (-0.8%) since November 2013. The economically inactive population, that is people who arenā€™t currently working or seeking employment, has increased by 1.4% since December 2012 and 0.1% since November 2013.
Moreover, in December, male unemployment was at 24.5%, female unemployment stood at 31.6% and youth unemployment at 55.5%, while most unemployed were living in Epirus and West Macedonia (30.4%), Macedonia and Thrace (28.8%) and in Attica (27.9%).
