“Koku” is the name of a Greek accessories company that of late has become very successful abroad. The brains behind this operation are Ilena and Maria Kokkou, two sisters from Greece who have managed to combine their talent and knowledge to create one of the most successful labels in the industry.
As the two women themselves explained, 90% of their products – which are all made in Greece – are being sold abroad.
The two sisters studied abroad and then returned to Greece where they decided to start a company specializing in digital prints. After a while they introduced a line of accessories to their brand and started selling their products in Mykonos and London. This kick-started their career and made their products well-known around the world.
They stated in a recent interview that they strongly believe in continuing to produce in Greece and export their accessories, even though the Greek economy is not at its best at the moment.
The main design that can be found in almost all of their products is the “eye” – a charm that is very common in Greek tradition and is supposed to protect the person who wears it against the “evil eye.”
