Former Ellinikon Airport in Rough Shape

Former Ellinikon AirportOver the years of its abandonment by the Greek state, the former Ellinikon airport has turned into a real landfill and the home of drug users, homeless and stray animals.
Just before its transformation into the biggest park in Europe, according to the Lamda Developmentā€™s project, the former Greek international airport is decaying day by day.
In the interior of the airport the situation is heartbreaking. The floor is completely covered by old tickets, papers and folders, all filthy and wet, along with mud, rotten food and other garbage. Moreover, the formerly stylish and expensive uniforms of Olympic Airlinesā€™ flight attendants, designed by the renowned Greek designer Yannis Tseklenis, are now abandoned on display mannequins, filthy and covered with a nylon sheet in the main lounge of the airport.
After the acquisition of Ellinikon airport by Lamda Development, Greeks are waiting to see the transformation of the former airport and its surrounding area. Many have also, expressed their hope that except from the luxury hotels, casinos and shopping malls that will be created, investors and architects will dedicate a special, commemorative area for the objects that survived the former airport, which is considered an important historic site of contemporary Greece.
