Greek Industry: 66 Jobs Lost on a Daily Basis

manufacturing industryThe number of permanent or temporary employees in the Greek manufacturing industry decreased by 6.7% in 2013. The Hellenic Statistical Authority announced that during the last year, the number of jobs decreased by approximately 24,100 and an average of 66 positions were lost on a daily basis.
Specifically, the number of employees in the manufacturing industry is estimated to have been limited to approximately 336,350, compared to approximately 360,450 in 2012.
According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the number of jobs in each quarter during 2013 is as follows:
– During the first quarter there were 339,400 job positions, compared with 375,600 in the same quarter of 2012.
– During the second quarter there were 338,000 job positions compared with 359,500 in the same quarter of 2012.
– During the third quarter there were 336,100 job positions compared with 356,900 in the same quarter of 2012.
– During the fourth quarter there were 331,900 job positions compared with 349,800 in the same quarter of 2012.
In 2011, the number of people who were employed in the manufacturing industry dropped to an average of 416,200 people, 469,750 people in 2010, 513,375 people in 2009, and 538,925 people in 2008, while in 2007 they amounted to 560,550 people.
Compared to 2007 jobs in the sector have decreasesd by 224,200 or 40%.
