Forgotten in the mists of film history, renowned Greek actress Aliki Vougiouklaki shot her first international movie in 1962, entitled Aliki, My Love.
The movie was directed by Rudolph Maté, who cast Vougiouklaki alongside English actor Jess Conrad. Greek production company Finos Film teamed up with British and Israeli counterparts and New York-based LIONEX Films undertook the distribution of the movie, which features a score by Manos Hadjidakis.
Aliki, My Love is about a rich American rich playboy (Jess Conrad) who inherits an estate on a remote Greek island. When he visits the beautiful island to deal with his inheritance, he meets a charming local girl (Aliki Vougiouklaki) and her devious mother and his life changes completely.

The movie premiered in London on June 10, 1963, and was shown in Greece the following year. However, the movie hasn’t proven as successful as the rest of Vougiouklaki’s movies. Even a topless lead actress couldn’t sway the Greek audience, which failed to appreciate the movie and Vougiouklaki’s awkward performance, and these days only a few know about her first English movie. The actress blamed Finos Film for the movie’s failure, as the company didn’t want her to leave Greece to start an international career.
