German Chancellor Angela Merkel won’t be meeting with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras during her visit to Athens, Greece on Friday, April 11.
Instead, she will hold meetings with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to express her admiration for the country’s recovery efforts, according to her spokesman Steffen Seibert.
Merkel will address the Greek Parliament and meet with Greek officials and financial representatives, although Seibert said her full program hasn’t been drawn up yet.
As for Merkel’s refusal to meet with Alexis Tsipras, an unidentified German diplomat revealed that Merkel considers Tsipras a “troublemaker politician and an undesirable negotiator.”
