Metro and Tram Favorite Transport in Athens

Athens MetroA survey has revealed that most Athenians prefer the metro or tram to the bus or trolleybus.
The survey was conducted by Greece’s  Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (KAPE) in partnership with the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) from February 2012 to December 2013, under the framework of the ENERQI European project. The participants evaluated all lines of the Athens’ public transport system based on various criteria.
According to the findings, passengers are more or less satisfied by Athens’ public transport and they consider price-quality relationship an important factor, followed by reliability and frequency of the transport services. The participants said that they prefer to use the metro and the tram rather than the bus and the trolleybus because in case of an emergency or a change in the timetable they are poorly informed by the bus services. They also said that they don’t use the bus due to several damaged vehicles, frequent mechanical breakdowns and the lack of service in some districts.
The passengers who participated in the evaluation project were in direct connection with KAPE to ask for information or complain about a problem but also to express their opinion on the services and suggest further improvements. The KAPE then briefed OASA about the evaluation results and the recommendations suggested by the passengers as well as emergency incidents and problems in the services.
