Poll: SYRIZA To Pip New Democracy at Euro Election

poll2An opinion poll about the European elections on May 25 gave main opposition party SYRIZA has a slight lead over the prime minister’s New Democracy Monday.
According to the poll, conducted by MRB for Real.gr, SYRIZA is the top voting intention for euro elections while New Democracy is preferred for national elections. Newly formed party The River comes third, followed by Golden Dawn.
Specifically, poll results for the upcoming European elections are as follows: SYRIZA (19.9%), New Democracy (19.7%), The River (9.2%), Golden Dawn (8.2%), KKE (6.1%), Olive Tree (5.3%), Independent Greeks (4%), Democratic Left (2.7%), other party (6.9%), swing voters (18%).
Concerning parliamentary elections in Greece, the results are as follows: New Democracy (21.8%), SYRIZA (20.8%), The River (8.2%), Golden Dawn (8.1%), KKE (6%), Olive Tree (4.9%), Independent Greeks (4.1%), Democratic Left (2.9%), swing voters (17.6%), Other party (5.7%).
A 43.1% of the respondents claimed Antonis Samaras is the most suitable prime minister, while 28.7% preferred Alexis Tsipras.
Greece’s political parties have started announcing their candidates for May elections. SYRIZA’s central committee on Sunday announced its candidates list includes constitutional expert Giorgos Katrougalos, documentary maker Stelios Kouloglou, Kathimerini columnist Nikos Xydakis, unionist Κonstantina Kuneva and labor expert Savvas Robolis. New Democracy will announce its candidates on Tuesday.
