Thessaloniki to Pilot Suburban Ferry Route

thessalonikiAs of May, after a hiatus of about 50 years, the ferries of Thessaloniki will once again connect central Thessaloniki to its southern coastal suburbs of Perea and Nei Epivates.
The Thessaloniki Marine Club said two boats will be launched, then a third, in a pilot scheme offering daily passenger services from the old seafront of Thessaloniki to the Thermaikos coast, stopping at Marina Kalamarias and Nei Epivates/Perea.
The idea of restarting a ferry network in Thessaloniki was first mooted in 1986 but hasn’t been implemented until now. According to Emmanouil Kailas, the businessman and ship-owner behind the project, three ferries will run from May to October, carrying 110, 140 and 180 passengers on a journey of about 50 minutes. The ticket price will be 2.5 euros.
If the pilot project is proved successful, the company will officially launch the sea transportation services, which will run year-round, with five stops.
