Eurostat: Extent of Greece's Primary Surplus

Greek Current Account SurplusThe European statistics service, Eurostat, is expected to confirm a Greek primary surplus for 2013, on Wednesday. Eurostat estimates that the primary surplus will reach 3.4 billion euros while the Troika estimates that it will amount to 1.5 billion euros.
After announcing the extent of primary surplus, discussions concerning Greece’s debt can begin, with announcements concerning talks expected at the next Eurogroup which will be held on May 5.
On Thursday, the Eurogroup Working Group is expected to approve the collection of a new aid package of 8.3 billion euros. About 6.3 billion euros will be paid out in April while two further installments amounting to 1 billion euros each, will be paid out in June and July. Prior to the Eurogroup meeting, the President of the Council of Economic Advisors, Panos Tsalkoglou, will present the Greek government’s growth policy.
The Greek coalition government is planning to focus on health funding by supporting the banking sector as well as non-banking funding tools available through the National Strategic Reference Frameworks (NSRF). The government’s growth plans also include the support of agricultural production, food manufacturing, tourism, shipping, energy, transports, research and innovation as well as the improvement of welfare services and introducing tax breaks for business and taxpayers.
