Russian Journalist Gives Praise to Thessaloniki

thessaloniki“Thessaloniki-Love at first sight” is the title of an article by Russian journalist, Julia Usachev, who spent ten days in Thessaloniki, northern Greece and fell in love with the city.
The Russian journalist was drawn in by the city’s Greek tradition, the cafes full of people, the city’s vitality and energy,  the tastes of the Greek cuisine and the light of the city. The journalist advised visitors to taste Greek products such as olives and Greek feta.
The tourist development has returned to Thessaloniki after five years. In 2013 the number of overnight stays increased by 100,000 compared with 2012. The city mainly attracts Greek visitors while it appears to be a rather popular destination for Russians, Turks, Israelis and Romanians.
According to a recent survey conducted on behalf of Thessaloniki Hotel Association, nearly one out of two tourists claimed that what attracts them is the city’s “personality.” Thirty-six percent were impressed by the archaeological sites, 30% by the local cuisine, 24% by its shopping area in the center and 14% by the city’s newly renovated waterfront promenade.
Nine out of ten Greek and foreign tourists that visited Thessaloniki during the last months, recommended: “Visit Thessaloniki. It is a great city, with nice people, interesting culture and very good restaurants.”
