Greece Gives Political Parties €7m for Euro Parl Campaign

Greek parliamentA total of seven million euros will be shared among Greece’s political parties for the European Parliament elections.
The Party Committee met Friday at the Interior Ministry and said the half the funds will be distributed based on the results of the 2009 European Parliament elections, with 10% (700,000 euros) to be shared among parties in Greek Parliament, and 40 percent allocated after the May 25 election according to the results.
State funding for political campaigning has been cut by 85% since 2011, when 55 million euros were handed out.
The Interior Ministry also decided that given the brevity of this year’s electioneering period, there will be no restrictions on how much time mayor and regional governor candidates can spend giving interviews on the radio, television or internet.
