Inmates in Korydallos Prison Hospital Protest Against Poor Conditions

korydallos prison hospitalFifty-five HIV-positive prisoners have decided to stop taking their medications as part of a strike demonstration against terrible conditions in the Korydallos  prison hospital in Greece. Additionally, 205 inmates who are also being hospitalized in the prison have decided join the protest.
The situation is very tense and prisoners are determined to go to extremes in order to be heard.
Last month, the inmates of the hospital had warned that they would go on a hunger strike because the Greek Ministry of Justice had not included them in the arrangements to release detainees, due to the fact that their sentences exceed ten years.
According to a Ministry of Justice bill, prisoners who suffer from serious diseases and whose sentences don’t exceed ten years may be released if they have already served two fifths of their sentence.
