Austrians Arriving in Mykonos to Promote Greece Abroad

Mykonos-Greece-islandAustria is highly recommending tourism in Greece, especially the Greek island of Mykonos, as during the next week Austrian journalists and tour operators are to visit the island and shoot a commercial, targeting to promote Greece and its islands as the ultimate tourist destination for Austrians throughout the year.
Celebrities from Austria, representatives of three television networks, 20 journalists from Austria’s major papers and the managers of 14 tour operators are expected to visit between May 7 and 9.
The 52 Austrian delegates will stay on the island and explore the local villages, while also doing some sightseeing prior to shooting a commercial in the narrow streets of the town of Mykonos and its sandy beaches.
The event, which is an initiative of the Greek regional unit of South Aegean, the Municipality of Mykonos, the Austrian airline Flyniki and is co-organized by the Hellenic Tourism Organization’s (EOT) office in Austria, is a major “familiarization trip” and of the largest touristic journalism missions for this year, expecting to showcase Mykonos in Austria for the forthcoming touristic season.
For 2014, Flyniki has increased flights to 19 Greek destinations and targets to further expand its seasonal presence in the Greek market, with the Vienna-Kalamata route having already begun in February and lasting until late October and daily flights available for the Greek island of Santorini.
Meanwhile, the international airport of Vienna has become a major hub for the second largest German airline Air Berlin, which also flies to several Greek tourist destinations and in cooperation with Flyniki offers many opportunities for quick holiday escapes to many of Greece’s hotspots.
In a statement, director of Flyniki Christian Lesjak mentioned that the top priority for Flyniki is to transform Greece into an all-year-round destination like Spain.
