American Injured by Fireworks in Santorini Says She'll Visit Greece Again

american-fireworkThe 51 year-old American, who was seriously injured by homemade fireworks during an Easter celebration on the Greek island of Santorini, thanked all the people who stood by her side and helped her recover and said that she wants to visit Greece again.
Vicky Presmyk and her husband Chris, were seriously wounded when homemade fireworks were thrown towards them in the courtyard of a Church in Santorini. After the accident the couple was transferred to a hospital on the island of Crete. Chris Presmyk suffered injuries to his face while his wife underwent abdominal surgery.
Although she is feeble after a long stay in the Cretan hospital, the 51 year-old woman stated that she is moved by the warm hospitality of the Cretan people and thanked the Greek doctors for helping her recover. “We loved Crete and its people and we will definitely return to the island for our holidays,” she said.
She stated that her serious injury was the most shocking experience in her life. She feels anger for those who caused the accident, but the love and support of the people made her feel stronger.
In some places in Greece, it is an annual tradition to fire rockets in the form of fireworks at rival churches after Easter midnight mass, however homemade fireworks are illegal. Santorini police authorities reported that five people have been arrested in connection with the accident, two of who face charges of causing serious bodily injury and illegal weapons possession.
