Rising Tourism in Athens, El. Venizelos Filled with Travelers

tourism_0Travelers in the International Airport of Athens increased by 28% this April compared with the same month of 2013.
The fact that Catholic and Orthodox Easter were celebrated at the same time this year, in combination with the large increase in flights changed the image of Athens’ International Airport, Eleftherios Venizelos.
In fact, the number of foreign passengers traveling to Athens increased by 44%.
According to data released by the airport “Eleftherios Venizelos,” this April a total of 1.2 million passengers traveled to Athens. This number shows a significant increase compared with 940,000 passengers that arrived in April of the previous year.
The increase came from both domestic and foreign passengers the numbers of which rose by 29% and 27% respectively.
Overall during the four month between January and April passenger traffic in AIA reached 3.5 million passengers, an increase of 14.3% compared with the same period last year.
International traffic increased by 17.7%, while domestic traffic increased by 8.6%. During this time guests traveling to Athens increased by 36%. Finally, more and more airlines as of late are reappearing in the Athens market creating new connections, while others are increasing their flights to meet the demand for travel.
