New Strikes in Greek Universities

universityNew strikes announced by the administrative staff of Greek universities put at risk the efforts made by the Athens University and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) to recover the lost teaching time due to the long strike (from September 2013 to December 2013) of the administrative employees.
The administrative employees from eight institutions, who have been placed in an availability scheme, announced that they will proceed with a new 48 hour strike on Tuesday May 13.  Athens University administrative staff stated that if their demands are not satisfied they will proceed with closure of the universities, bringing back memories of their latest 3-month strike that threatened the academic semester.
Meanwhile, a document by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency creates fears new merges and the abolition of universities and technical institutions. The document urges the institutions to proceed with inventory. Institutions are asked to report the number of students, teachers and administrative employees, budget, other resources, future strategy, financial planning, the number of graduates etc.
