Panathinaikos Beats Asteras 1-0 Maintaining Lead over PAOK

FootballPanathinaikos won the game against Asteras 1-0 on Sunday, maintaining a 3 point lead over PAOK in the Greek league playoffs. Marcus Berg scored with a header in the 51st minute and led Panathinaikos to victory. Berg connected to a cross from the right by Giorgos Koutroubis and headed in from close range.
Panathinaikos has 10 points after four games in the play-offs. PAOK is on seven, Asteras on four and Atromitos on three.
PAOK defeated Atromitos 2-1 and is running for a spot in next season’s Champions League qualifiers. Atromitos led on the 37th through a Stathis Tavlaridis header, but PAOK came back in the second half, through a Dimitris Salpingidis equalizer and a Stefanos Athanasiadis tap-in from close range. Both goals derived from Lino’s assists from the left flank.
In the 90th minute PAOK was left with 10 players with a second yellow card and a minute later PAOK conceded a penalty, but goalkeeper, Panayiotis Glykos managed a smart save.
The first home defeat for Atromitos  means that the team cannot reach the top spot in the Super League play-off mini-table. On Wednesday, Panathinaikos hosts Atromitos and PAOK plays against Asteras. If Panathinaikos has a better result than PAOK, it will have secured the top spot that will send it to the third qualifying round of the Champions League this summer.
