Cleaners Will Not Back Down

cleaners-Finance MinistryCleaners suspended by the Greek Finance Ministry are occupying the building for the second day in a row, demanding the immediate implementation of a First Instance Court ruling for their reinstatement.
The janitorial workers remained at the entrance of the ministry all night and say they will not leave until the ministry clears up the situation.
The ministry, after consulting with government lawyers, will not appeal against the decision, but will submit the matter to the Supreme Court to determine if the First Instance Court decision should be executed immediately. However, the case is expected to last another year.
At the same time, a lawsuit against any person responsible was submitted yesterday, May 22, to the Misdemeanors Prosecutor in Athens, on behalf of the cleaners’ union, in order to investigate the reasons behind the Finance Ministry’s decision not to follow the court judgment.
