New Chairman for Alpha Bank

alpha bankYannis Kostopoulos announced on Thursday his resignation as chairman of Alpha Bank, one of Greece’s four systemic banks. His resignation is expected to be accepted at the scheduled meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bank.  He would be succeeded by the 66-year-old economist Vassilis Rapanos, one of the most respected executives in the banking sector. The composition of the rest Board of Alpha Bank remains as it is with Demetrios Mantzounis in the position of CEO.
The resignation of Kostopoulos who is deeply connected with the bank which started as a family bank, marks the beginning of a new era in the middle of the most turbulent period for the country and the Greek banking system, which is being reorganized.
Changes are also expected in the National Bank, as Petros Christodoulou, the second in command in the management of the bank is expected to leave in order to work in the USA. Reportedly, he will be succeeded by Stelios Papadopoulos, the  current head of the Public Debt Management Agency (PDMA), while  Alexander Tourkolias, is expected to become the new chairman and CEO, in the case that George Zanias leaves.
