Nike of Samothrace Inspires Greek Students to Create Game

nike of samothraceIn the Third Secondary School of Alexandroupoli, Greece, twelve pupils from the first classes, aged 12-14, created a computer game and board game related to the statue Nike of Samothrace. This was achieved as part of the cultural program “Nike goes to School.”
The teacher and program coordinator Stamatia Charitoudi explained that the idea for the game arose while she was teaching local history trying to make the course more attractive. Just like that, one simple idea was made into a cultural program named “Nike goes to School.”
The children’s working group began constructing the game in November 2013 and completed it in early May 2014.
The board game
In this form, the game consists of a gameboard from fabric and four pawns made of clay. Every one of them is a figurine of Nike of Samothrace. The game includes four categories of cards with questions concerning art, history, archeology and general matters.
The electronic application
The computer game is an application that can be installed on the computer consisting of four categories of questions and a timer to reply.
After the presentation of the game, the innovative group is thinking of putting the product on the domestic market.
