The 2nd Tinos World Music Festival organized by the Cultural Foundation of the island of Tinos, Greece will be held from June 6 to 8.
The audience will have the chance to enjoy music from Bulgaria, Turkey, Armenia, Syria, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Spain, France, Andalusia, Persia, India and Africa. Twenty two musicians from around the world have invited people to attend a wandering into the magical world of music.
After the successful Tinos Jazz Festival, the Cultural Foundation of Tinos launched the first Tinos World Music Festival last year, in order to bring the Greek audience in contact with important musicians from the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, and also to integrate the island of Tinos in a broader intercultural network.
This year’s festival will open on Friday, June 6 with the concert “Athens, Sofia, Istanbul: an inter-Balkan musical collaboration.” The audience will enjoy three virtuoso musicians from Greece who inaugurated the first Tinos World Music Festival, the lutist and singer Martha Mavroidi, the bassist Giorgos Venturis and the percussionist Vaggelis Karipis as well as the Bulgarian Nedyalko Nedyalkov and the the oudist Yurdal Tokcan from Turkey.
On Saturday, June 7, master of lyra and lute, Stelios Petrakis from Crete; founder of the band “L’ham de foc,” Efrén López from Spain, and Bijan Chemirani from Iran will take us on a journey to Greece, the Middle East, Spain and Europe.
The curtain falls on Sunday with the Greek ensemble “Melidron” and a concert by the guitarist Kevin Seddiki and the Irani musician Bijan Chemirani.
“Melidron” is a newly formed ensemble consisting of Tinian musicians. The repertoire of “Melidron” ranges from East to West, well-balanced between traditional and modern, old music and new, thus resulting in a unique musical sound. In this festival, the ensemble will perform songs and tunes from Turkey, Armenia, Thrace and Iraq.
Admission to all festival events will be free.
