On the basis of a new pilot plan on shopping hours, a new law will be applied in seven touristic Greek areas. The new law stipulates that stores in the specified areas will open on Sundays to give a boost to touristic development. According to sources, the new law will gradually apply to every Sundays for at least for one year.
It is expected that the law will be initially applied as a test for one year in seven regions with high touristic activity.
These regions seem to have been included in the IMF report, which won’t be published until next week.
The seven areas, which belong to three Greek Regions as defined by the recent Act 4254/2014, are the following:
In the Attica Region: the Historic Center of Athens, which includes Ermou Street and Omonoia area in general, and Raphina due to its port.
In the Southern Aegean Region: Rhodes, Kos and Ermoupolis, the capital of the Greek island Syros.
In the Central Macedonia Region: the Historic Center of Thessaloniki, where Tsimiski Street is located, and Chalkidiki.
