Mykonos: Super Paradise Vs Tropicana

The owners of the two major clubs on the Greek island of Mykonos, “Super Paradise” and “Tropicana” are starring in a fierce conflict that is causing a lot of talk on the cosmopolitan island. Threats, insults and attacks in public places are on the daily agenda. The Court of Syros has ordered the two club-owners not to approach each other at a distance less than 50 meters to avoid tension before the tourist season begins in Greece.
The conflict of the two businessmen, Iakovos Xydakis, owner of “Super Paradise,” and Stamatis Daktylidis, owner of “Tropicana,” began about a year ago and resulted in courtrooms in April. Xydakis applied for injuctions when on March 29, while sitting in a local cafe with his friends, he was attacked by Daxtylidis. Allegedely, Daxtylidis tried to hit him and threw a glass ashtray at him. The perpetrator then left, but the attack was recorded on video and submitted to the police.
However, Daxtylidis presented to the court a completely different version of the story. He claimed that his life and business are being threatened. He argued that their conflict has deeply upset him given that Xydakis is his cousin and in the past they had excellent relations.
In late May, Daxtylidis was arrested by the local authorities on charges of unprovoked physical act of aggression, insult and threat. The reason for his arrest was a lawsuit filed against him by Nikos Xydakis relative of the owner of “Super Paradise,” and sanitation employee for the Municipality of Mykonos.
Nikos Xydakis claimed that he was working when Daxtylidis approached him and started hitting him over the head and body. “He tore up my shirt and even though I was lying on the ground he continued to hit me,” he said. The owner of “Tropicana” denied all accusations and claimed that he never hit Nikos Xydakis.
