Three-Day Strike in Greek Universities

universityUniversity administrative staff will hold a three-day strike,  starting Wednesday. The protesters are asking the new Greek Education Minister, Andreas Loverdos not to lay off the employees who were placed in the mobility-availability scheme, which expires on June 13.
More specifically, they are protesting against the fact that their colleagues who were placed in this scheme last year have not yet been transferred to other positions and are in danger of being dismissed.
The Union of  university employees said, that if the government does not provide guarantees for these 399 administrative employees, there could be more strike, which would put the academic semester at risk.
On Tuesday, teachers in vocational lyceums who are placed in mobility-availability scheme, occupied Loverdos’ political office located in Voukourestiou street, central Athens, Greece.  The teachers shortly before the new Greek government swearing-in ceremony, entered the Minister’s office and requested a meeting with him to discuss the issue. The protesters were holding banners with the moto:  “No to layoffs, Return of teachers to schools.”
