Greek Bishop Condemns Gay Pride Parade

Greek_Bishop_Gay_Disgrace_PerversionThe bishop of Thessaloniki, Anthimos, condemned Gay Pride celebrations of the LGBT community, stating that it is “a perversion of human existence.”
“Do not give dogs what is holy,” he quoted from the gospel of Matthew, in regards to the celebrations which have been scheduled to take place in Thessaloniki this weekend (June 20-21), one week after the Athens Gay Pride parade.
“Show respect that my position and life is wholly dedicated to the church and the people and respect the fact that I’m well behaved, so don’t associate me with this disgrace. Enough. This is a perversion of the human existence,” he proclaimed. Furthermore, the bishop mentioned he is considering to attend an anti-gay event which condemns the celebrations.
In early 2014, citizens of Thessaloniki started a petition and managed to get 19,500 signatures in order to ban the Gay Pride parade in the city and protect the children from witnessing such “unholy and unnatural events.”
Yannis Boutaris, Mayor of Thessaloniki, does not share the same opinion on the issue as Bishop Anthimos. Boutaris stated that even though the two men  cooperate smoothly in several matters, on other issues they “just don’t share the same views.”
