A classic milestone of Greek culture, world-famous musical Mikis Theodorakis’ “Zorba the Greek” is to be presented by the Greek National Opera Ballet in its debut at the Panathenaic Stadium, for a one and only performance on Sunday June 29. This high quality performance aims to attract both a Greek and foreign audience. Ticket prices vary from 15 to 25 euro.
Zorba the Greek,” based on a novel written by Nikos Kazantzakis, will be brought to life again through the GNO Ballets Dancers, with the prestigious classic choreography of Lorca Massine, the magnificent music of Mikis Theodorakis, played by the GNO Orchestra under the instructions of conductor Elias Voudouris, accompanied by the spectacular voice of Maria Farantouri and the GNO Choir. The performance will take place at the unique Panathenaic Stadium, under the holy rock of the Acropolis.
Fifty years ago, Nikos Kazantzakis’ hero Zorba had inspired director Michalis Cacogiannis to make the Oscar-winning film named after him.  This hero is still popular and has become a symbol for Greeks, as a personality full of  power and will for life, who expressed both joy and anguish through dance.
