Greeks Pay More for Holidays than Tourists

Grace Hotels GreeceA recent survey of Greek newspaper “Kathimerini” showed that Greeks pay more for their summer holidays than foreign visitors as travel agents offer tourists cheaper vacation packages for Greece.
The survey citing information from the British website thomson.co.uk, shows that a package including a roundtrip plane ticket from Manchester to Crete, Greece and a seven night accommodation in a three star hotel costs about 137 pounds, which is less than a one way ticket from Greece to London. A flight from London to the island of Rhodes along with a seven night stay in a studio with a kitchen, sea view and access to the pool cost only 121 pounds. Off course the hotels in these packages are not luxurious but the pictures posted on the website show that they have big and clean rooms.
A Greek tourist, for the same vacation package will have to pay about 547 euros, not counting ferry or airplane tickets. A direct flight from Manchester to the island of Zakynthos in the beginning of July with accommodation in a four star seaside hotel costs 308 pounds while the half-board costs an additional 84 pounds. This means that with only 392 pounds a British tourist can enjoy luxurious holidays.
The offers are also favorable for Russian tourists. A package including a direct flight from Moscow to Rhodes along with a five night accommodation in a three star hotel will cost about 15,000 rubles (320 euros). All the visitor has to do is wear an “all-inclusive” bracelet for five days and he will enjoy all the services of the hotel. In Malia, Crete, a three night stay in a three star hotel along with the plane tickets cost 220 euros.
