Greeks Choose Chania, Skiathos and Rome for Holidays

greek beachesA recent research by trivago.gr revealed the most popular summer destinations among the Greeks for 2014 as well as the number of days they plan to spend on their holidays.
The first stop for Greek travellers before visiting an island is none other than Greece’s capital, Athens. The average nightly rate for a double room in July and August amounts to 81 euros.
Regarding the Greek islands, it appears that Crete is the most popular with the majority of tourists visiting the region of Chania. The island of Skiathos, located northwest in the Aegean Sea, comes second. Skiathos is considered a cheaper destination as the average nightly rate in July and August reaches 70 euros.
Those who can still afford a trip abroad prefer Rome, Italy (16%) while Istanbul, Turkey is placed second. However Istanbul is cheaper with an average nightly rate amounting to 109 euros in July and August.
According to the figures, Greeks will spend 8.14 days for their holidays which is lower than the average of 8.92 days. Those spending the most days are the Russians (10.76 days) and the Dutch (9.61 days). On the other hand, Portuguese and Hungarian citizens will spend an average of 8.1 days, followed by the Finns with 8.2 days, the Spaniards with 8.6 days and the Slovenians with 8.9 days.
The lists of the most popular destinations come from searches in trivago.gr from January 1 to June 15 for the months of July and August 2014.
The online nightly rates for July and August are produced after comparing all prices as presented in 47 trivago platforms and data from more than 150 different booking sites.
