3D Restoration Program at Acropolis Museum

ekthema
On the occasion of its fifth birthday on Friday June 20 2014, the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece, commenced an ambitious digital restoration program of the Parthenon sculptures.
Horse riders of the west frieze are presented in 3D digital images with the addition of copper weapons and bridles, using alternating light and color patterns.
The 3D program scans all ancient sculptures and delivers a very impressive color image. Visitors are able to see the Panathenean procession, which is located on the right part of the Parthenon frieze, in real form and color.
Acropolis Museum director, Dimitris Pantermalis, stated “New technologies have found their place in our museum, providing more tools that are necessary to help visitors visualize how the monuments really were.”
The Acropolis Museum has launched a new weekly program with multiple thematic sessions on Greek antiquity.
Visitors can contribute to the shaping of future presentations by stating the topic that interests them to the museum.
According to the museum, each session has a different topic. The program is scheduled to last at least until August.
