Foreign Press Reports on Maziotis' Arrest

Foreign Press_MaziotisThe New York Times published an article today, July 17, on the arrest of “Greece’s most wanted terrorist, Nikos Maziotis.”
The article makes a brief description of the events that took place in one of the busiest tourist areas in downtown Athens right before the terrorist’s arrest. According to a Greek police spokesman, there was exchnage of gunfire between Maziotis and police. Maziotis was shot and injured, while a policeman and two tourists, one Australian and one German, were also injured during the shootout.
Furthermore, it stated that Maziotis is the “self-professed leader” of  Greek terrorist organization, Revolutionary Struggle, which “is best known for firing an antitank grenade at the United States Embassy in Athens in 2007.” Moreover, he “had been unaccounted for since the summer of 2012, when he violated the terms of the conditional release he was given following the maximum of 18 months in pretrial custody.”
The Straits Times from Singapore reported that the wanted terrorist Maziotis was arrested after a police operation in central Athens which resulted in a shootout leaving a policeman, Maziotis, and two tourists injured.
The Voice of America also announced the arrest of Nikos Maziotis, while also referring to his terrorist activity.
Finally, The Guardian hailed the success of Greek police, while also noting: “The far-left Revolutionary Struggle, which took up the mantle of November 17 after the group was unmasked in 2002, had claimed responsibility for a number of attacks, including most recently a large car bomb outside the head offices of the Bank of GreeceTimed to coincide with the debt-stricken country’s return to international markets in April, the explosion caused considerable damage although no injuries. In 2007 the group attacked the US embassy in Athens by firing an anti-tank grenade at the building.”
Meanwhile, police are certain that he was planning more terrorist attacks in the near future.
