Four Volunteers of Potami Party Resigned Via Facebook

potami
Four volunteers of Potami in South Attica section resigned through Facebook protesting against the internal procedures of the party. The volunteers are against the method followed by the party’s headquarters to send “lists” using text messages to support specific persons in the internal elections of the party.
At the same time, a member of the Heraklion committee denounced through Facebook the procedures followed by the central leadership of Potami aiming to control its organizations.
A few hours ago, it became known that the member of the Central Committee of the party Maria Cana resigned for personal reasons.
The representatives of the congress elected by acclamation Stavros Theodorakis as “head” of the Potami party last month.
The conference will be concluded on Sunday afternoon with the announcement of the election results of the 70-member Panhellenic Committee.
Earlier, the body of the Potami congress had approved the positions of the party as well as the conclusions drawn from this first event and had voted in the statute of the party, which uses the terms ‘volunteers’ instead of ‘members’ and ‘head’ instead of ‘president’ for the leader. Volunteers of Potami were 400 intially.
In his address, known TV presenter and journalist Stavros Theodorakis had spoken against the “party state” and made overtures towards both the Left as well as conservatives in a bid to widen the party’s base for collaboration. He spoke of the need to increase the party’s percentage and set the target from the 6% they got in the European elections to 14% or even 21% in order to be able to take part in a national coalition government and have the power to enforce changes.
“There are different things that a movement of a 6% can achieve compared to a [representation of] 12% or 18%,” said Theodorakis, in reference to Potami’s successful debut at May’s European Parliament elections, where it amassed 6.6 % of the ballots. He added that Potami’s target is to bring about “the Big Change, which is being announced for decades, but never comes”.
