Greek National Basketball Team Tops Group C in U-18 European Championship


Greece Loses to Hosts Turkey
The Greek National team lost their final group stage game against Turkey for the 2014 Men’s U-18 European Basketball Championship, but managed to qualify 1st in their group after a triple tie which found both teams and Bosnia Herzegovina with 5 points each.
The Game
The Greek youngsters, led by Vasilios Charalambopoulos who scored 18 points, had a bad start and saw the Turks go up 12-0. Greece refused to give up and by then end of the 2nd quarter were down only by three (36-33). The third and fourth quarters saw both teams switching leads until the last minutes of the game, when the Blues managed to score just 2/7 free throws and give away the win 68-64.
Greece’s Schedule
Nevertheless, Greece topped the group with a better differential after three games (+5) and will move on to play against Spain on Monday, Serbia on July 29th and Montenegro on the 30th for a place in the finals.
