giant cheeseFor yet another year, the residents of Zoniana village on the island of Crete, Greece produced a giant wheel of kefalotyri cheese that weighs one ton.
The cheese, loaded on a special mechanism, was presented to more than 2,000 people who had flooded in the village’s square to attend the Shepherd’s and Cheese feast which was held for the 7th consecutive year.
The feast was organized by the Cultural Association of Zoniana. The visitors, Greeks and foreign tourists, had the opportunity to taste traditional Cretan products and dishes offered by the housewives of the village and to enjoy traditional music and dance performances. The traditional village has managed to enter the Guinness Book of Records thanks to the giant cheese.
The Shepherd’s and Cheese feast is an initiative of local residents who want to promote their region and customs, and remind people of the Cretan hospitality which is famous across the world.
