International Champions Cup: Olympiacos – Liverpool 0-1

033618Olympiacos lost to Liverpool 0-1 in its second group stage game for the International Champions Cup in Chigaco, IL.
After an impressive performance against AC Milan on Friday, whom it beat 3-0 in Toronto, the Greeks continued with their dominate play and if they were less unfortunate in their goal scoring opportunities, the scoreline would’ve been different.
The Piraeus squad was a little dodgy in the first few minutes, making one too many mistakes which gave Liverpool the chance to open the scoresheet. In the fifth minute of the game, after Daniel Sturridge’s shot hit defender Abidal’s back, the ball changed direction and Raheem Sterling found himself on a one-on-one situation where there was no issue putting the ball past Olympiacos’ keeper, Balazs Meyeri.
It wasn’t until the second half and Dominguez’s entrance that Olympiacos started dominating and showing the crowd that they can also slowly be considered one of Europe’s finest teams. With fast paced one-two’s and good triangle plays, Olympiacos took over and found itself just missing the goal when newly signed Gazarian fired a bullet that landed on Brad Jone’s crossbar in the fiftieth minute.

During the rest of the half,  there was still a chance for a goal, but it wasn’t until Andreas Samaris’ right-footed shot from outside the box was cleared by Jones that fans grasped their faces in despair.
