A Patras appeals court on Wednesday acquitted two of the four men charged with shooting and injuring 28 migrant labourers in Nea Manolada, Greece, in 2013.
The migrants were working picking strawberries and they had gathered to ask for their back pay. In response, the four men allegedly opened fire at them.
The court found two of the accused men innocent of all charges. One of them was the tenant farmer. Two of the defendants were found guilty, one of causing grave bodily harm and the other of complicity in the aforementioned charge.
The court has decided to sentence them to 14 year and 7 months in prison and 8 years and 7 months respectively. Their sentence will be suspended until the appeal hearing where they will testify.
During the hearings, migrants and activists rallied outside the court building of Patras in support of the migrant land labourers.
