Summer with a Greek Taste for Greek Diaspora Youth

Athens
Fifty young Greeks living abroad, aged 15 to 17, will arrive this summer in Greece to spend time in the distant homeland of their ancestors under a hospitality program launched by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The young Greeks will participate in the program organized by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad that after five years of inactivity, has started operating again this year thanks to the efforts of the Deputy Foreign Minister, Kyriakos Gerontopoulos.
The program which will operate until August 11, includes visits to the Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis Museum, and many archaeological sites and monuments. The participants will also attend cultural events and educational activities that aim to make them more familiar with modern Greece.
The program aims to strengthen the Greek identity of the participants, to develop ties of friendship between young Greek diaspora youth from different countries and to reward students with good academic performances who are deeply interested in the Greek language, history and culture.
Kyriakos Gerontopoulos has also announced the reopening of the summer camp in Malesina, which will accommodate Greek children of diaspora aged 9-13 years old. The participants will enjoy cultural activities and training courses while at the camp.
According to Gerontopoulos these programs will strengthen the bonds of the Greeks of diaspora with their homeland and will give the opportunity to young Greeks to better get to know the Greek culture. He also expressed his gratitude to the officials of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad who worked hard for the relaunch of the hospitality programs.
