Athens to Create Electronic Operations Center

electronic operation centerThe City of Athens is planning to create an electronic operations center in order to monitor public property, as well as improve the municipality’s efficiency in interacting with citizens.
The 6-million-euro project will be mostly funded by European structural funds (95%) and it is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2014. According to City of Athens officials, the building process for the electronic operation center will last 15 months. The final product will allow citizens of Athens to conduct a large part of their interactions with the municipality electronically.
“We want residents to be able to submit a request electronically and then observe its progress,” stated Yiannis Ramfos, who is responsible for the project. “This program will be unique and it will help the municipality and city on many levels.”
Furthermore, the electronic operations center will also be able to monitor the 100 CCTV cameras that the municipality is planning to install in various public properties such as schools and playgrounds.
