Greece Honored in World Travel Awards

travel awardsThis year’s World Tourism Awards were of particular importance as they were held at the hotel Divani Apollon Palace & Thalassoin Athens, Greece which shows that the global tourism market has given a vote of confidence to the country’s efforts to return to growth.
World Tourism Awards aim to reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global tourism industry. Founded in 1993, World Tourism Awards is known as “the Oscars of the travel industry.”
The awards to Greek tourism companies show the high level of tourism services in Greece. The Acropolis in Athens won the title of Europe’s Leading Tourist AttractionThe island of Corfu was honored as Europe’s Leading Beach Destination and Aegean Airlines won Europe’s Leading Regional Airline. Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso was announced Europe’s Leading Spa Hotel, the Grand Resort Lagonissi  was voted Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Center and Costa Navarino gained the title of Europe’s Responsible Tourism Award. Porto Zante Villas won two awards, Europe’s Leading Luxury Beach Villas and Europe’s Leading Private Beach Hotel.
The Chairman of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, noted that Costa Navarino is already among the most powerful brands in Europe and will now draw more attention due to the award.
